Max Moszkowicz passed away
28 January 2022Former top lawyer Max Moszkowicz sr. has passed away at 95. It is as if has chosen the day himself; memorial day for the Holocaust. Born a Jewish boy in Germany, he and his family fled the Nazi regime and came to Maastricht. During the war he lost his parents, brother and sister and became the sole survivor of his family besting the concentration camps, carrying this experience with his for the rest of his life.
After the war he studied law in Nijmegen and settled as a lawyer in Maastricht. He swiftly became the most known criminal lawyer in the Netherlands and made criminal law, which was frowned upon at the time, a sexy topic. He mentored many well-known Dutch lawyers like Doedens, Theo Hiddema, Carry and Geert-Jan Knoops, all in addition his own four sons. Together with his sons he started the law practice known as Moszkowicz®, applied and registered as trademark by de Merkplaats®. Max defended top criminals like Cor van Hout, Willem Holleeder and Klaas Bruinsma. Max Moszkowicz was the first criminal lawyer that put the emphasis on the person behind the crime, instead of the dossiers and facts. Even after all he saw in his lifetime he stayed the course; intrinsic evil people do not exist.
