Hendrik Groen® - Now one million!

As a trademark office, we are delighted to celebrate the special milestone, of one million copies, of the tenth anniversary of the iconic character Hendrik Groen®. This unique name was registered by us in 2017 as a European Union trademark and is protected in 27 countries. The trademark represents not only the book series, but also the values of humor, wisdom about life and unity that make the character so recognizable. In the popular TV series Hendrik Groen®, Andre van Duin starred as the friend of Hendrik Groen® in his first serious role as an actor.

Since the launch of the first diary, Hendrik Groen® has had a huge impact in Dutch literature. The books are not only bestsellers, but also have an international allure, with translation rights sold to 36 countries. This shows the broad appeal of the trademark and the universal themes covered in the stories.

The publisher Meulenhoff reports that the success of Hendrik Groen® has been further underlined by receiving the NS Publieksprijs for the first two volumes, as well as the successful adaptations for television and theatre. These transformations have strengthened the trademark and reached new audiences, further expanding the impact of Hendrik Groen. We are proud to have contributed legally in this great success.
